The CEJ was created so that the Pacific Presbytery is held accountable to its members of its promise and commitment to be an equitable, anti-racist Presbytery in policy and practice.
The CEJ will:
Develop goals and establish benchmarks for all Commissions, Committees, and Staff to meet and perform Pacific Presbytery’s process of becoming an anti-racist Presbytery;
Provide Presbytery-wide opportunities for intentional relationship building with/between people and congregations by organizing discussions, creating study groups and providing continued anti-racism training/resources to break the internalized white supremacist structure of the Church and to remind its members that God unites persons through baptism, and teaches us to celebrate differences in race, ethnicity, age, sex, disability, geography or theological conviction;
Receive and study data collected from various reports of Pacific Presbytery’s members to determine the progress made towards becoming an anti-racist Presbytery;
Conduct regular, but at least annual, reviews and meet with all Commissions, Committees, and Staff regarding their specific anti-racism-tasks to track progress, direct resources, provide assistance, and make additional recommendations for Pacific Presbytery’s anti-racism work;
The CEJ will appoint and/or retain, as needed, third-party managers, educators, and/or other persons to assist with Pacific Presbytery’s commitment to equity and justice among all its members;
Develop programs to recruit ethnically, racially, and gender-diverse pastoral candidates, seminary students, lay leadership, and members; and
Make an annual report to the Presbytery regarding the progress and efforts towards becoming an anti-racist organization.
