We are seeking a Children’s and Family Ministry Music Associate to join our team of ministry leaders serving the families of First Presbyterian Church Santa Monica and the surrounding community.

Our ideal candidate would have a strong Christian faith, a history of participation in a worshipping community, energy and enthusiasm for living the gospel with children and their families, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to teach and lead children in musical performance. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in teaching music to children is required. 

The main responsibilities include working with and under the direction of the Director of Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry to:

  • Develop, plan, and implement vocal and instrumental music programs that promote Christian faith formation in preschool and elementary children.
  • Assist in developing, planning, and implementing other types of programs to promote Christian faith formation in toddler, preschool, and elementary children.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

TITLE:  Children’s and Family Ministry Music Associate

PURPOSE:  To work with the Director of Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry, the Spiritual Growth Ministry Team, church staff, and the congregation to provide a loving Christian community that supports children, youth, and their families on their faith journeys and commits to love, nurture, inspire, and equip children and youth to be lifelong followers of God in the way of Jesus Christ.

POSITION:  Part-time. Hourly. Not Exempt from Overtime.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CHILDREN’S AND FAMILY MINISTRY (Preschool – 5th grade)

  • Personally get to know the children and their families and contact them on a regular basis.
  • Work with and under the direction of the Director of Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry to:
  • Develop, plan, and implement programs to promote Christian faith formation in toddler, preschool and elementary children by engaging in activities of discipleship, worship, mission, outreach, and the building of Christian community. 
  • Engage families by providing support and educational opportunities for parents on topics of interest related to children and families.
  • Plan and lead the music for the annual Vacation Bible School program and the annual Christmas Pageant.
  • Plan and lead the children in performing music for Sunday worship at Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost, and other designated Sundays.
  • Meet regularly with the Spiritual Growth Ministry Team to review the ministry’s programs and events and to plan upcoming activities.

STAFF CONDUCT AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Maintain healthy boundaries as a means of supporting personal health and ministry programs that are healthy and sustainable.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Attend staff meetings and maintain ongoing communications with supervisor and church staff.
  • Keep regular office hours at the church.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities and professional development activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry.

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Accountable to the Director of Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry.

EVALUATION:  An annual employment evaluation will be conducted by the supervisor. The Personnel Ministry Team may also review annually the employee’s performance and the adequacy of compensation at its discretion.
