Earth Care Team

Mission statement: The Earth Care Team of the Presbytery of the Pacific was formed in 2022 out of the Mission Interpretation and Promotion Committee in response to the global climate crisis. Our team is a community of connection and inspiration for individuals, churches, and faith communities across the country who are called to protect the future of God’s earth through education, advocacy, and as a witness to our faith. We seek to be:

  • rooted in our biblical belief and identity as followers of Jesus and clear about our call to shift from being consumers to caretakers of the earth
  • dedicated to the intersection of environmental justice and anti-racism
  • grounded in the faith that everything and everyone in God’s creation is interconnected

Our team is a community of connection and inspiration for individuals, churches, and faith communities in the Pacific Presbytery who are called to protect the future of God’s earth through education, advocacy, and as a witness to our faith. We meet monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 pm on Zoom. Join us if you want to be involved in a faith-rooted witness for earth care. All are welcome.

Become an Earth Care Congregation

The link above provides a resource guide for churches interested in becoming an Earth Care Congregation.

First, to become an Earth Care Congregation, churches make an Earth Care Pledge to integrate environmental practices on their church campus. Then, churches complete projects and activities in the aresa of worship, education, facilities, and outreach.

Next, churches complete an application for their first year and track their progress with their commitments. Annual renewal (another form) is required. Churches must apply before they can be recognized as an Earth Care Congregation and gain certification. This certification is designed to recognize churches that have committed to taking God’s charge to be good stewards of Earth seriously.
