The Work of Christmas: Thank you from LAC+USC!

IMG_5289
The week before Christmas 2015, the chaplains at LAC+USC and some great volunteers from local churches visited all the patients in the hospital and delivered an early Christmas gift of hand made quilts and afghans to each person. People around the city worked all year to create over 500 handmade quilts and throws, including a great group from Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church. Each patient got to chose their favorite one and received a blessing for hope and healing. A mother of a young man in the burn unit picked out a fleece blanket sporting her son’s favorite colors, she cried as she spread it over him, explaining the love and prayers that went into making it. Another patient was just about to be discharged as we walked in his room. He took his time to select a thick quilt, explaining that he was homeless and would be facing a long cold night. He was particularly grateful for the warmth it would give him. Lucy, from Immanuel Presbyterian, volunteered for the first time this year. “it was just the Christmas gift I needed to see the gratitude in people’s eyes!”, she said.

Thank you to everyone who worked to sew, knit and crochet, organize and distribute the Christmas blankets to the patients!
