Karen Ceasar
Elder Commissioner
June 24
- I just finished up today on committee work of the 14 Overtures of Ecumenical/Interfaith Relations.
- Arrived in San Jose on Friday to a very warm temperature! Almost immediately upon arrival, I attended the Anti-Racism conference for commissioners & advisory delegates....this was absolutely GREAT! Various speakers who shared their experiences with racism, then each table shared in a small group setting their own experiences. This really was a wonderful beginning to GA!!
All of the worship services have been superb!!! The messages shared have been absolutely inspiring and challenged each attendee to really strive toward the focus of Micah 6:6-8 plus the greatest commandment!!
With the election of the new Moderator, Bruce Reyes-Chow, and much of the work in my committee, I am seeing some of the long standing walls breaking down and the working together to focus on the very important purposes of the church and what the Lord requires of us as Christians! I feel truly blessed to be serving in this capacity and have also been blessed to see some old friends from Colorado and made some new friends while here! It is encouraging to be a part of this General Assembly and I pray that the work done here will make an impact on each congregation and member within the PCUSA.
- My committee had the privilege to meet many of our ecumenical partners; from Japan, China, South Africa, Ghana, Angola, Zimbabwe, and others. It is amazing the work being done in those countries; each sent their thanks and gratitude for the support of the PCUSA and each asked for continued prayers. We worked on a new Ecumenical Stance of the PCUSA with clear affirmations and focus.
The committee was very diverse in geographical area representation, but we were a very loving, congenial group!
- The YADs have served as an important piece on our committee, but also within the whole process thus far! They all seem to know PCUSA church polity, etc. better than some adults!!
- Need to sign-off now...going to the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship breakfast at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow!
- Blessings to all,
- Karen
